Pay subs
How much?
The cost of membership depends on what category of member you are:
- Ordinary (Full) members: people whose principal source of earnings is professional journalism or writing. Annual subscription is £40.
- Associate members: for those whose work advances the public awareness of science and technology. Associate members do not have voting rights. Annual subscription is £36.
- Student members: open to those in a full- or part-time education. You may be on a course training science communication, you may be a science student involved in student journalism or a simply a student journalist with an interest in science journalism. Student members have no voting rights. It is expected that they will progress to ordinary or associate membership if they embark on an appropriate career upon completion of their course. Annual subscription is £20.
Paying through your company
If you chose to pay your subscriptions through your company, please remember that you must attach a reference name to this payment or your subscription will not be renewed.
Standing order
Our preferred method of receiving subscription is by an annual standing order to:

Please set the date of first payment to January 1st.
The only problem with standing order is that our subscription fees to change from time-to-time, although they do remain absurdly modest. If the fees are raised, we will send you notification and you will need to adjust your standing order.

As we have said above, please make it clear in any payment that the money comes from the member paying the fees rather than from a company that we have never heard of.
Credit card
We can send you an invoice through Paypal to your email address and you can chose to pay using a credit card irrespective of whether or not you have a paypal account.

Cheque
We strongly recommend that you avoid using cheques unless absolutely necessary. They get lost, and then you may have to waste your time looking through your statement to see if we have cashed it or not. You have to spend money on a stamp and envelope sending it to us. We don't have someone in the office very often and will take time to process payments. If you must send a cheque, please make it payable to the ABSW and send it to ABSW, at the Wellcome Wolfson Building, 165 Queen’s Gate, London SW7 5HD.
Cash
Our treasurer can accept cash at the AGM in January.
